I drove all day-today, in my old car, together with Mayra.
I felt free. Driving these long lines, long freeways without ends.
I saw one coyote, 5 eagles, two weird Peruvian horses and 12,300 cows
(also, an endless Déjà vu of 500 McDonalds, Chevron, 76, Valero...king Burgers)

We had a wonderful dance show in Los Angeles.

We also went to see the movie "Pina Bausch in 3D",

all the people is like NICE...we did dress up like barbies too :P)

and wishes are physically mighty weapons that trigger delicious chemicals, endorphins, opium in our brain and make us feel electricity, and we "live" only but to "live" these D R E A M S.

This summer I was vagabonding in Manhattan. After a dance class I went to buy a sweet pastry.

As usual the store was being attended by Mexicans (three).

They spoke me in English
-"wat duya wantt miss"

I answered (in Spanish)
- "err, hola!" (I ALWAYS do this)

they grinned:
-"hola!, de donde eres?! / hi! where do you come from?"

I grinned back:
- "de Mexico!, de donde mas? / from Mexico, where else?!"

One of them looked at me carefully, not that smiley:

- "ah si? / really?, you don't look Mexican"

I was about to pay, and this same guy, the not so smiley one said to me with serious eyes:

"Well, you are in vacations isn't?, hmmm... is weird to see a Mexican in New York in vacations, isn't?"

His friends started to get nervous

- "I wonder when I am going to have a vacation like you?"

He was staring at me coldly, and we all got tense, but I knew what he was doing. I try to talk back and try to defend myself, to let him know that I wasn't rich, that I work hard, that I got a cheap airplane ticket, that I had friends over here and...but... what could I say?, I am lucky no matter what, instead I duck my head and thought:

-c'mon let it out, I know you need to do this... I won't go away, I will stay and listen to you-

"I should charge you more" he said acidly. His friends' faces were incredulous of what he was saying. I knew what he felt: resintimiento. I could see him leaving his little town in Mexico, leaving his family, working all day long for years, non stop, rain or shine, and sending money and missing Mexico bad, and I really REALLY understand him.

- "you are one of those Mexicans that can have a vacation" he gave me my change

(he didn't charge me more)

- "because I will never have a vacation like you" he stared at me in silence, maybe waiting for me to insult him.

I didn't know what to do without offending him. I really wanted to let him know I was sorry without triggering more resentment. I really didn't know what to do. I was just standing there like a stupid... tourist.

One of his friends, trying to soften things, asked me what was my profession. With a week voice, I told him that I was a dancer. I try to smile gently, and timidly I left the store feeling strangely ashamed.

Already in the subway, I thought that of all the Mexicans that he could say this to, he found (maybe not the only one) but the one who is aware of the tough life he is having; he found the one Mexican that has a project to dance for EVERYBODY, and the one mexicana who will understand things better than himself (maybe).

I thought: Maybe THIS is a SIGN!

I felt more happy in the subway, I kept mind-toying with plans of how to expand our project in New York. I felt so much better that I decided to return back the next day and tell him about the project I was working on and that I would love to dance for him and his friends and that I really understand him from de bottom of my heart!.

* you won't believe this, but the problem of vagabonding is that you really don't pay attention to the street numbers (I want to think this) because I couldn't find that store ever again. (weird)*

That night and the next and the next night I pray (I beseech) that every human in this world can have a vacation.

But especially this man.

I wonder, how is it that Mexico has so much "poverty" when we have the richest man in the world?

We protect what we fall in love with.

How do we fall in love with the unfair, the not so lucky, the resented one?

This video is our first performance at the Mexican Consulate in San Francisco, at the peak hours of emigration paper work. This past October 2011.

We are dancing a piece called "Piruli" which means: candy.

(we just show up, we opened a space to dance and people were like... huuum...QUE PASA?)

Por qué no me gustó MISS BALA.

Ayer en la tarde, tuve la oportunidad de ver Miss Bala en la Universidad de Berkeley, California. Con la buenisima novedad de que Diego Luna venía a presentar la movie y a responder preguntas del público. Padrismo!

Ya tiene un rato que vivo aqui en California. Intento seguir la vida en Mexico de todas las formas posibles, atravez de mis amigos, de mi familia, de las noticias; tratando de leer todos los artículos que puedo, y tratando de apoyar, desde el Gabacho, de manera incondicional todo aquello que nos procure soluciones, unidad, educación, paz.

Es impresionante ser testigo de como casi todas las peliculas mexicanas, articulos, noticias...siempre tienen finales (overwhelming) tristes. Es como un patrón (a mind set) que nos caracteriza. Es como una afirmación, una absoluta aceptación a la frecuencia mental "No Hay Esperanza", "Por eso estamos como estamos".

MISS BALA es una movie que esta muy bien hecha, los actores se la rifan actuando super bien. El chaparrito que le hace de malo, el jefe de "La Estrella", no inventes, que bien la hizo este compadre. Como en México todo es posible (un lugar de magía, terror...un nido de absurdeterias) te juró que hasta pensé que los actores que le hacen de malientes en la movie eran de verdad!. La intensidad de los colores, los sonidos, el miedo, la ansiendad que te produce Miss Bala es de primera calidad.

No me gustó Miss Bala, porque (aunque no podamos tener una mejor realidad) me hubiera encantado que tuviera un final feliz, y que por primera vez (en años) hubiera dado lo que sea, LO QUE SEA, porque la magía del cine pintara una nueva imagen de fuerza, esperanza y unidad no solamente en mi mente, pero en la mente de quien se deje pintar. Una imagen a donde la familia sea invencible, y los valores morales y el poder de un buen corazón sean los campeones. No me hubiera importado que de pronto se hubieran aparecido la Guadalupana o el Chapulin Colorado para ofrecernos el milagrito de una nueva frecuencia mental.

La cultura del narcotrafico esta en todo. Al ser narcotraficante no solamente te haces rico, tambien se te festeja en peliculas, telenovelas, corridos, cumbias, noticieros... más mal que bien, pero eres parte del estrellato.

Ya no creo que las películas con más sangre y con una impresionante colección de balazos nos puedan cosechar una mente con ideas bénevolas; ya no creo que escribiendo muertos en cada enunciado, o imaginando en una escena muda los gemidos de impotencia de una violación o las incontables formas en que podemos acabar con la vida de un ser humano nos puedan otorgar el fruto que tanto deseamos: RESPETO.

La violenica es violencia, no importa que tan artísticamente la quieras mirar, del lado de la justicia o de la injusticia, la violencia es violencia que siempre caminando con su hermano el miedo genera un estado de insensibilidad total.
Este año me invitaron a trabajar en un campamento de verano como maestra de arte, enseñando a niños de cinco a diez años. Algo de maravilloso. El más grande tesoro de esta experiencia (yo que todavía no tengo hijos) fué el darme cuenta de que TODOS, todos nacimos buenos y con los mejores sentimientos. Y no se cómo explicarlo bien, pero es en esta bondad fundamental que nos debemos enfocar; yo lo llamaria un rescate de pureza. Se escucha "Cheeze", pero es una cursi-verdad.

Miss Bala es una muy buena película para los críticos de movies extranjeras (o de otro planeta), porque para los Mexicanos .... no creo que sea buena mirarla. Mi respeto y admiración por artistas como Diego, Gael, Gerardo (y todos los que trabajan duro para hacer algo para mejorar la realidad en que vivimos) es sincera y profunda. Sus intenciones son buenas y honestas (no hay duda). Simplemente que estoy segura que Miss Bala no es una solución, es una foto que ya no es bueno mirar.

Es mi más sincero deseo, y lo digo con todo el poder de mi inocencia, con todo el poder de lo imposible muy posible y con todas las puertas de la Fé abiertas: que un maremoto de positividad, de educación, de sensibilidad nos inunde, no solamente a Mexico, a todo el planeta, en el nombre de una psyche mas saludable.
Y que nuestros cineastas, pintores, poetas, actores, escultores, coreógrafos, creadores... nos dibujen (asi como al Principito) nuevas, infinitas, poderosas (mighty), bellisimas imágenes mentales de lo que si queremos, soñamos, y podemos lograr: belleza y tranquilidad.

Arriba los Tacos!

pss... pa' la próxima movie que se armen, pueden hacer algo más...hmm mágico, inolvidable, inspirador, a donde pueda traer a mi grupo de niños de la escuela de arte, a mis abuelos y a mi mama también?

I watched this movie named "Immortals"

a little bit to much commercial (today, black Friday)

but very spectacular.

We wanted, for the first time, to try
what is this American thing of the Black Friday?

We did have a wonderful Thanksgiving day experience
(we really wanted to live it)

We ate, and cooked turkey and pumpink pie... and all...

the Thanks-giving-rock and roll details.

We wanted to belong, we were curious,

no judgment,

no predjuice

we just wanted to be part of the "Thanks-thing".

Dinner, family, movie theater, shoppin
that's why we found "Immortals" in a Black Friday.

about the absurdity of Black Friday, do not understand
how it feels not to be the most smart educated guys.

Bill Gates and Don Francisco (what?)

I was 13 years old.
In my English class In my school In Cocoyoc;
we had to read two books (all in English).
Both of the books were small bios full of pictures.
The biographies were about Mother Teresa de Calcuta and
Bill Gates.

I love Mother Teresa and Bill Gates since then, very
very profoundly / p r o f u n d a m e n t e.

Past Saturday I was eating tacos in the Mission in San Francisco
in a Taqueria that looks very ugly but taste like oouh aaaah yei la la LAAA.
I order four tacos de Barbacoa (no manches!)
---la roja o la verde? -"las dos tan' re buenas..., pero prube la verde :) ---

In a good tipical taqueria, there is always a T.V.
I was facing the T.V.
(I was happy to see T.V. because I don't have T.V.)
I could see Don Francisco with his Sabado Gigante
I think Sabado Gigante exists since I was 5 years old?
anyway, I'm eating mis tacos...
I turn to see the T.V.
WHAT!????
Bill and Melinda Gates with Don Francisco....hmmm
QUE?!!!

I mean Bill and Melinda are such.. good persons.
I only have WOWs for them and gratitude for my school that introduced me

happy, cozy, warm, con suavesito mood

playing with my imagination my favorite dreams

planing bombastic strategies for life and work.

about six things I'm absolute sure:

I need to buy socks
The more you focus in your own life, in the magic of your life...the happy you are.
There is always this point where things are manifesting fast (we are living this point)
I feel more confident, invaded with calm. I trust.
Christmas is coming and I hate Christmas. I need... to ...change... this.
I found a photo of this great artist named Aimee Mullins, she doesn't have legs, yet she is a model, an actress, a motivational speaker, a fast runner.

When I saw this photo I instantly identified myself.

This is how immigrants feel, we suffered an invisible amputation of the image of "one-self";

we are running behind a new identity that we so badly need to adapt, to belong and to be accepted.

No matter how rich, how poor, how much you know or how much you've studied, this is a fact

that we live everyday when we become an "outsider, a pioneer an alien".

Even if we go back to our countries of origin, we do not belong there anymore, we are (irreversibly) a bridge between borders.

Thank you Aimee Mullins, what a spectacular, free, powerful, unstoppable, fearless state of mind you have.

Fantasia Mexicana, Episode No.2 "Blue Burritos and Cucumber Dream Manifesto"

I was talking with my friend, who arrive to USA when he was a little kid, he had to jump across the border with his mom and siblings. They tried around ten times before succeeding.
And I asked him,
Of all the works you have done, which was the most difficult?
He said: "not peeking oranges, not working at the factories 12hrs per day, not cleaning toilets, not this, not that... but harvesting cucumbers".
Happen to be that cucumbers have tiny microscopic thorns that make your hands inflamed no matter if you use gloves, plus you are under the hot sun all day in your KNEES.
“i would not wish this job even on my worst enemy” my friend said.

I painted this blue donkey, this blue burrito in 1994. At that time I didn’t know that in this world, there is a very small percent of people that have the chance to receive an education

The painting is a story about “Celestino, y la Dama” (the little blue burrito and the lady).

Celestino worked in a circus show having to carry a heavy lady on his back, he was sad. He didn’t know that he was the main attraction, and that the lady wouldn’t have a show with out him.

What would you do, if you went to another country (or another planet) and you find out that 90% of times you meet people from your country they are washing dishes, cleaning toilets, peeking oranges, harvesting cucumbers?. They have the worst and the hardestestest of the jobs in society. What would you do if you were a simple dancer? What would you Do?

....I’m sure you would create some Fantasia Mexicana.

Fantasia Mexicana is about bringing a gift of dignity to brave people.

We’ll present a series of performances, at the heaviest hours at the Mexican Consulate in San Francisco (when immigrants have been waiting in lines for hours, waiting for assistance). Each performance will explore the organic gap between sophisticated scenic language, dance fusion and music interpreted with aerial dance (fabrics and harness), modern dance and live painting. Highlighting the power that is found within the Mexican ancestral art, cosmology, nature, colors and pyramids.

Imagine the face of the people when they’ll watch us dance?

Cucumber Dream Manifesto:

Fantasia Mexicana, Episode No.1

It was very difficult to see, we didn't know that the new protection for our masks was going to
leave us almost blind. Dancing with amber coals can get pretty HOT.
Spinning fire coals match the [circular] motion of the arms at 177 km/h under a rain of sparks.
But in this performance I was specially blind.

We went to dance to Los Angeles. We were at an amazing Youth Shelter.
A shelter open the 24/7 to the abandoned teenagers, to the runaway kids;
this is a space where the combination of words like :
"juvenile prostitutes", "drug addicts", "youth gun violence and gangs"
are VERY familiar.

As a performing artist you develop this kind of ability where you are
able to read the energy of the public that you are trying to feed with your art.
When the public is totally engage in the -- art moment-,
I personally feel a flower opening in my chest.

There we were, dancing for all these sheltered youth, almost blind, trying to follow the music, jumping, turning on time with the choreography, moving in furious concentration,
and when I opened my mind towards the public, I read no reaction ---ONLY SILENCE---.
"Oh nooo!!!", I thought, "we failed! maybe they didn't like the music!".
(weird, because I was feeling the flower blossoming in my chest)

Before the performance we had the chance to eat with them.
We knew they were a difficult public, oh yes, and I didn't want to dance any music
they know, like hip hop, rap...dubstep, specially nothing "sexy".
I wanted to confront them with the most beautiful ethereal forces of sound.
And we kept turning and shaking the body! and dancing with all our might!
the SILENCE still there! (and the flower is blooming so so so big)
oh oh oooh no!
we finished.
and...

THEY EXPLODED!!!!!!!! They YELLED!!!!!!!!, one MONSTROSOUS CLAP.

they started to ask for more.
I TORE out my mask, breathed and I could finally see!
We lived the most wonderful silence: they were eating each one of our best intentions.
They were frozen, in complete awe, holding their wide open heart on anti-gravity state.
that's what they said to us. They came and hugged us.
They helped us clean our things, they told us about their dreams, their plans.

me and my troupe went to dance to a commercial event, kind of HUGE.
i was ok.
then...i realized that i was not that 100% ok.
SO HARD to practice and practice and have to accept the MISTAKES
as part of the "magic" road
It's so hard to fall in love of the unknown
it's so hard to love the world, the impermanence, the getting old
the distance, the inner - the outside wars
it's so hard to let go
and these days, even if the gray suit people have stolen my TIME
(not even time to type a word in this nattacolorina blog
or time to pray to all the highest superiors super superiors above)
it's so hard to fall in love of this daily mundane
that offers NO answers in the cornflakes box.

I'm just saying that it's not that easy to fall in love of this
whatever world, projection of the mind, illusory dream.

i keep smiling hard

a nightmare

I went to bed thinking that it is awesome to follow a 30 days writing challenge, and the benefits of this small discipline. It is easier to follow the instructions in having to reflect certain quotes, insights, thoughts from someone else.
I found more difficult to write about my own thoughts.
Sometimes it's easier to follow, and sometimes it's beneficial.

Today i woke up at 4:00am, a nightmare, again.
It's a wonderful coincidence to read today's prompt, and reflect in "the moment" when we have left our own path and follow someone's else "camino".
Because is so early in the morning and I have to take two pills for my nightmare headache, I found amazing that I can't remember the moment where I have left my path, except for when I had to follow my mom's path as a little girl. And I won't lie and say I have never followed another path... it's just difficult to remember.

What can I say about following my own path?
Is the most horrible, amazing, scary feeling; it is full of doubts and insecurities that cause you the most creepy nightmares and insomnia. It's a lot of risk and exposure; It's a lot of study, a lot of "incertidumbre"; creativity become overwhelming and at the same time wonderful. It's a lot of loneliness. solitude.
It's a lonely path indeed. Very lonely.
It's a lot of auto-correction, and auto-criticism; it's a lot of auto-discipline... and a lot of auto-love, and practicing confidence... and a lot of nightmares.

It looks like the real work needs a little bit of Physics, Thermodynamics, human labor, theology and the most important... this kind of ability to exert pulls or PUSHES AGAINST the BASIC FORCES OF NATURE...along a path of certain length.
We need Energy, we need direction, we need a splendid heart, we need faith, we need a simple believe system with out limitations, and we need a impressive cognoscenti.
To get all of the above (i think) is the "work".
There is no goal we can't achieve after we do the "work".

Tony Hsieh a petit TITANIC wise.

If you are interested in social changes, social revolutions or social improvements… or social weirdness…this is wow!

I started following Tony by chance. While surfing in the net. I found his book: Delivering Happiness. Because I didn’t know anything about business, I placed the book aside, yet keeping an eye in his book tour.

I didn’t know how to introduce you Tony, so I copy and paste two sentences from Wikipedia:

"Tony Hsieh is the CEO of online shoe and clothing shop Zappos.com. Prior to joining Zappos, Hsieh co-founded and sold the internet advertising network LinkExchange to Microsoft in 1999 for $265 million (and sort of have a cat). "

I need to explain to my family and friends that here in North America with the internet market it is very normal that an internet company grows so incredibly fast that the owners need to work like maniacs and start hiring employees like crazy every day, and in less than two years you can become a millionaire!. Something like that.

This is the case with LinkExchange. At the age of 24 Tony was rich but not very “happy”. In his book, Tony explains how since a little kid he was an entrepreneur, and since a child how much he would love to be surrounded by his dear friends. There is no chapter without a “best friend”, “a buddy” or “a unique accomplice”.

Tony co-founded LinkExchange with a friend, but, due to the fast growing, they end up having a company full of strange people, with a low energy motivation environment, no good culture, and we all know what it means to live very unhappily in the work field.

When I read how Tony and his friends started building Zappos, all I felt is adrenaline, almost like watching a science fiction movie. Fantastic story! It talks to the heart, and how money is not the only ingredient for happiness at all. It’s about being sincere, about building emotional relationships, friends, and family in the work field; it’s about tough reflection, observation; it’s about following high moral values and willing to follow your heart no matter what the world is telling you –It is not the way we do things—

Tony together with his friends Alfred, Chris, Jenn… and 1,000 employees have created Zappos, rank one of the happiest places to work. Zappos places great emphasis on company culture and core values:

- A 24/7 call center

Employees enjoy free lunches, no-charge vending machines, a company library, a nap room, Laughter Yoga workshops, and free health care. Each department has its own decor, ranging from rainforest themed to Elvis themed. Employees often lead spontaneous office parades, like the Random act of kindness parade, or the Underware parade. It is occasionally accompanied with cowbells. Managers are required to spend 10-20% of their working hours "goofing off" with employees outside of the office

The primary sources of the company's rapid growth have been repeat customers and numerous word of mouth recommendations, of its customers, 75% are repeat buyers. The company's customer service reputation has been augmented through viral spreading as well. Zappos is a family, they try to empower their employees, cultivating confidence because the only way to deliver happiness is being happy.

And they have plans for Las Vegas, only Willy Wonka and his chocolate factory can understand Zappo’s plan for Las Vegas! Of course it’s gonna be super duperWow.

I’m sure Tony Hsieh and his friends come from the business of the future, where we’ll realized that no matter what our position is in a company, from those who answer phone calls 8 hrs per day up to the head directors, everybody will be focused on a higher purpose. And the simple task of answering phone calls in the past was annoying. In the future it will be transcendental just as the unlimited manifestations of how we can deliver happiness- be humble and Pursue Growth and Learning.

I had the chance to send some questions by email to Tony, which he so nicely answered.
Tony Hsieh’s parents are from Taiwan. I know that many Asiatic people also have names in their main language. In Tony’s case, he has a mandarin name, as well as a western name.

I asked Tony about his Mandarin name which is:
謝家華
in Taiwanese-american spelling: Hsieh Chia-Hua
It can be spelled as Hsieh Chia-Hua or Xie Jia Hua.

謝 Hsieh that means: --thanks—I mean: Tony Gracias :)
家 Chia that means: family, house, home
華 Hua that means: Flower, flourish

His favorite music is: “Rabbit, House music, 80's music, pretty much anything that's on the radio.
Reading: “How We Decide”.

About his family: “My grandpas passed away. My parents have always been supportive (albeit sometimes reluctantly so) of whatever I do.”

If you would have the chance to talk with one of the most wanted criminals in the world, what would you tell him?
“I'd want to understand why they did what they did.”

Natta ask: Do you believed in God?

Tony Thanks Family Flourish, answered:

Not in the traditional religious sense. I think it's strange that there are thousands of religions around the world and each person believes that his/her religion is the right one by the mere fact that that's what they happened to be born into, and the rest of the world is therefore wrong.

I do believe in emergent properties though… So in that sense, there's probably a higher power (and actually multiple layers of higher powers) that we aren't able to comprehend because it's an emergent property… Just like the cells in your body aren't aware that they are all part of a human being with consciousness, we probably aren't aware that we're part of something bigger than ourselves that has its own consciousness or even something else that we aren't capable of comprehending".

This is one more example of the amazing GOOD things that are happening in this so loved and not so loved USA (I wish someone writes an article about Delivering Happiness and Tony Hsieh in Arab). In my crusade to find those REAL - TANGIBLES social revolutions that are impregnated with this kind of supreme cure for self defeating selfishness in mundane daily action, Zappos is an Amazing example! In my search to find those, that every nano second, are using all their Pow! to Wow all the anti-wow... Tony Hsieh Chia-Wow Rocks!

Every time I read something about Mexico, it is only but bloody bad news,
the last news have touched me very bad, and I still having troubles dealing with nightmares in my sleep, so sad.
The son of the poet and writer Javier Sicilia was murder by the organized crime just like thousands more innocent victims.

Journalist compare Mexico with Afghanistan (I still found this VERY difficult to believe) yet, there is not much to say, in few words:
Mexico's demons are out of control.

We need to recover the balance, specially in places like Darfur, Sudan, Afghanistan, DR Congo, Somalia, Iraq, Pakistan, Zimbabwe...
and -- Mexico --.
The real problem is that the bad people, this bunch of foul deformed people, are seducing, convincing, recruiting, training and manufacturing more bad people to keep delivering ignorance, terror and bloody nightmares.
How do we recover the balance? I humbly want to say that I am a fragile human being, I'm not a wise, yet, this is my message to the good people of the world:

Good people of the world, it is our mission to inspire, convince, recruit, train and create more good people, we have a contest to win, ---because if we lose it---, think <hell>.
Good people of the world, do not wait to be cheated, hurt, kidnapped, tortured... to take action and Inspire more people to walk the path of fraternity, solidarity.
Good people of the world, do not wait for a tsunami, an earthquake, a cancer, a heart disease, a terrorist attack to push yourself to the edges of goodness, selflessness, kindness, compassion.
Good people of the world resist the anger, the frustration and resist, resist, resist!, do not join the behavior of the haters, resist!; do not join the behavior of the apathetic, the behavior of the oblivion.
Good people of the world do not wait for the governments, the politics, the protesters, the prophets, the saints... to build more schools, more hospitals, to build more bridges, more culture, more fairness. Let's do it ourselves!
Good people of the world join the architects, the constructors, the engineers, the donors, the volunteers, the transformers.

Dear family and friends,

I’m going to dance a piece named: Yo sigo parada aqui / I still standing here.

This dance is dedicated to the happiness above and most of all the hard labors that we have to endure in life.

To the sick people in pain, to the abandoned little kids, to the unwanted homeless, to the victims of war, to the people that works cleaning toilets 8 hrs per day, yet... they wake up in the morning, stand up and live and try to be happy.

The fact is that we all have problems and pains, some more, some less, yet, we wake up in the morning, stand up, and live, deciding to live, and wanting to keep living even if it is freaking hard... we try to be happy, this is a natural human thing.

Why?

Because we are not here in this planet only to make business, study a career, eat, fart, fight, and get old.

We know, with our purest bunch of protons and neutrinos or that raw divine matter that, actually, is the potential of who we are: life is but a spiritual school.

I’m not saying eat organic, make yoga, drink kambucha, buy shamanic slippers or mitsubishi meditation... I mean:

- wake up, stand up and go face the non-inspirational to do list... with a smile and happiness-wake up, stand up and keep working hard even if it hurts, it’s unfair, it’s too late, too bad, too scary; with a smile and have fun just like the little girl jumping on the sofa in the middle of the trashland. :) wow.

CUT THE CHICKEN’S HEAD OFF! (without pity)

Margarita arrived at my house to work, talking as if she were right at home.

I was captivated by how she spoke. She used words in a very special manner.  Only God could understand her. 

She made adjectives into verbs and verbs into subjectives. Very objective. She liked to make exaggerations with juxtapositions; with syntax she paid her bus fare, groceries and her taxes as well. Any statement that came out of her mouth was truly outstanding, but very far from being comprehensible, outside the reach of any correction: something not seen everyday.
 Margarita was a natural alchemist of the true Mexican language. A very wise ignorant.
My first teacher in the art of story-telling with the invention of impossible sentences, but very understandable conjugations. I suffered from a natural "something" that made every maid that we had during my childhood, confess their life stories to me. That was how I was exposed to true, straight-forward stories of "real life", mixed with scorpion mortal stings, children born of spontaneous generation, psycho-magic advices, home remedies from combination of plants, teas, roots and fruits as well as the creation of wonderful amulets. Instructions on how to subdue a husband with a frying pan, ghost legends, powerful prayers to miraculous little saints that not even the Vatican knows of their existence, escapist acts very difficult to execute, love letters and very intimate secrets that I cannot confess because I gave my word I wouldn’t. Under several oaths.
I can tell Margarita's story because she gave me her permission to do so.

One day my mother wrote down in her list that she had to prepare roast chicken to eat.
While she was preparing the poor little chicken that already was very dead, Margarita started telling me about how once she had opened a chickery (chicken market).
“Only to such an ignorant woman that I am, could such a savage idea ever enter her head,” Margarita said.
“I thought it was very easy to kill chickens, but at the hour of the chicharrones (at the hour of the cracklings)*, I got terrorized! “I could not do it! No, no!”“It took a long time before I could catch a chicken... and as soon as I got one between my hands I couldn't twist its neck. “
“And then when I did, I didn't do it correctly and the chicken no longer wanted to die!”
“It rather escaped from between my hands, with its neck hanging to its side.”
“A degeneration running all around the garden! In my fear I started shouting, and the beating of my heart didn't let me reason!”I couldn't think of a thing to do. Until the chicken got tired because it was running for its life, and it fell, like a crazy person. We both got so scared that we almost died together.”
“I immediately went next door to the neighbor's house and I told her why I was so scared.
Then, we returned to my garden and the neighbor took the chicken and held it in her hands, as if nothing happened, and finished breaking the poor bird's neck. And its soul left it. The chicken didn't move any more. And when I saw that it was very dead, I started to cry, because I had hoped that it would live.”
“This is something very natural in humans, when we face death.”  
The neighbor said to me: 
“Look Margarita, if you want to kill a chicken or any other animal,  you must do it without any mercy. Because if there is even a little bit of compassion, they can't die and you hurt them and you hurt yourself, and you are going to suffer under so much pain!”
It took me a long time to learn how to kill chickens.
I cried a lot.
And I couldn't stop hating the day when I got the idea of opening a chickery… and the worst thing was, that I could no longer do anything about it, because I had to do something with all the chickens that I had bought.

So one day I decided to kill them all.”“At the beginning, I started twisting their little necks because I kept having a lot of compassion. Soon afterwards, I cut their heads off with the machete and then I hung them upside down on a clothesline, to bleed, the poor little things!” “I can say that more than once I found that the chicken had escaped, running around without a head! Can you believe me? “Alive, without a head! “Something really horrible, blood everywhere… like hell itself!” “But all that was my fault. Because I kept having a lot of mercy for them. Just enough of invisible compassion that they couldn't die, the innocents, and everything ended in pure, unaffected suffering.”
“We all suffered; I hung a clothesline of tears.”
“The habit of killing everyday started to cool my heart. After a while, I no longer used to twist their necks. I went straight to the machete, grabbed the chicken, held it and zaz!
I cut their head off without any mercy…
And then “take your fresh chicken to eat…
” Margarita would laugh... ha ha ha ! ha ha ha!

That day I didn't eat any roast chicken.
But this taught me a useful lesson: how to end many situations that have caused me countless suffering.
When you realize that you've created a bad habit. When you have an addiction. A tormented situation that suddenly becomes repetitive. A pattern of negative thought that takes over the mind for several days, months or even worse, years! When a friendly relationship becomes a sick relationship. Or any given problem that makes you suffer, I recommend that you remember Margarita's story… and go straight to the machete: grab it, hold it and zaz, cut the head off the problem without mercy!
Just please, don't hurt or kill anybody.
This story is about going to the root of a situation, making the decision and taking action to bring change to your life.And as Margarita said,  “well,  there's no way to put that chicken’s head back on again!”

the suffering, the happy, the pretty, the ugly, the slow, the fast.and the only word that can build bridges between the opposites is:tolerance

I am excited to tell you all that i only have a collection of good news, and zero bad news.

1) After many years of looking for a way to fuse dance and humanitarianism by bringing performance art to the untouched by the art and others that may not have been exposed to youth culture, creating a bridge between worlds. Finally this past June, me and Mayra decided to formalize an organization/dance-company and to extend the invitation to more artists to collaborate with us thank you Paul Cabezas, Kim Adams, John conkle, Maria de la Rosa, Reed Rickert, Sarah Stolar and Jennifer Alvarado for all your enthusiasm and energy.

We also want to thank Marina Salonga, Tegan Shawb, Melanie Shriber and Jyllian Cortez for your support in our beginning.

i just can say that while I was dancing with all my might,

we started to listen to all the grandpas and grandmas YELLING like crazy!

they were really YELLING, and only one thought crossed my mind:

“I hope none of the grandpas suffer a heart-attack!. we... just... want... to make them..... HAPPY”.

Thanks to the power of all the Buddhas nobody died.

it is FANTASTIKO to bring art to those people who never had an IDEA

or never expected to watch something like fire dance...

most of the time all they have is loneliness and sickness.

I don’t feel artist doing this, I feel human.

Everything I write is true.

Sometimes we have to learn to say things in a way that .... things won’t sound unpleasant or scary when, in fact, they are pretty bad looking things. It is hard to write words like old, unwanted, marginalized, impeded, abused...the sick, the suffering, the poor ...it’s better to call them not very lucky, underprivileged. It is not easy when writing a grant or a fiscal sponsorships application or even to you!, and tell you that we want to dance for the “not very lucky”.

In Fact we want to dance for EVERYBODY, but we are attracted to bring art to the untouched by the art, especially to those who are living not very nice moments in life. We hope that our art inspires them and releases them, at least 10 min, from their bad dreams.

I'm not the super dancer, I don't want to be that, and i'm not looking for money or fame,

i'm just a simple woman, and i know there are a lot of things i need to learn,

but i know life is ridiculously short and when I died I want to be wealthy with peace and

leave an inheritance of happiness behind me.

Help us to buy the equipment so we can dance for our mission.

Mr. Greg, CAI New friends and The last of the Zapotecas

I found Mr. Greg Mortenson one day that i was surfing in the internet looking for TEA books to read. I'm a tea lover....the title of his book "Three cups of tea" kidnapped my attention. I ordered it on line, when it arrived to my home, i never imagine that it was going to change my life. Everything that i have found around tea, it's just amazing.

I confessed that after all these months of work and carrying with me flyers and posters everywhere, after the gala dinner my first thought was that i was going to have more time to focus in ALL the work that i have to do, my cycle with Mr. Greg was over in the most fantastic way.

When the event was over and we all went to pick up the candles and flowers and all the stuff from the Central Asian Institute, I found three little woman helping us, they were speaking a weird dialect, i knew they were from Mexico, so I spoke to them in spanish -"what are you speaking?",

"where do you come from?" I smiled to them

-"We come from Oaxaca" they smile me back, hurrying in their work, "we speak Zapoteco".
Wouuuu Zapoteco is a language that is about to be extinct! They are from Oaxaca one of the beautifulest (and poorest) states of Mexico, what an amazing surprise.
-"Are you all family?" i asked them with even a bigger smile,
-"Yes, we all came together to America...hey ... but you speak very well Spanish" They were smiling even harder.
-"But of course I speak very well Spanish, I am Mexican!" I was laughing so hard
-"But why are you dress like one of them!, no, you are not Mexican!" they pointed to the Saree i was wearing.
I explained them that I was working as a volunteer for an organization that was focus in helping womans in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
I asked them if I they let me take a picture with them. They agree very happy.
When I asked them to write me their address so I can send them a copy, one of them told me that they didn't know how to write or read, that they never had the chance to go to school, she asked me to wait 5 min in order she can go and ask to her sun to write their address.
I was freeze with irony, imagine, I was working on an event to raise money and awareness for helping to build schools for WOMANS in Pakistan and Afghanistan, when just right here, in the middle of the American Empire, three little Zapotecas were illiterate. This is a big sign!, I won't stop to help Mr. Greg ever, i will continuous to spread his example, and never leave behind the mission of supporting woman's education in the entire WORLD. This is what i call the magic of life!.

I hope we all volunteers at the CAI can keep in touch. And thank you very much to all of you and all the directors and organizers of the CAI that gave us the chance to contribute with our seeds in this beautiful humanitarian mission.

This last month the most important thought and experience that I’ve been wondering about and want to share with you is about
-- accepting others people’s changes--
We are changing all the time, we are always in this process, sometimes for good sometimes for bad. It is very difficult to change if other family members, friends, or work partners don’t want to see our self-transformations, and vice-versa. It is not nice when someone hangs a tag on you that says that you will be like this for the rest of your life no matter how much work you have done to become a better human being. If we do not embrace and acknowledge, our, and others people’s good shifts, it is very hard to live a community transformation. It is a series of SLOW
changes over the course of the years that create long term evolutionary changes.

and yes... I know!!! It is sometimes so difficult to get rid of our bad habits.

I found out that when practicing silence, it is easier to catch these thoughts that trigger these impulsive reactions that later on we lament so bitterly. You don’t have to pay for an expensive retreat in the mountains to practice silence. You can talk with your roommates or your family members and explain to them that you want to keep silence for one, two, three... days, believe me it is such a beautiful and powerful tool.

“Observe your thoughts, Correct your conduct”
Watch out! you really need to let the people know that you are in a day of silence, it wont be nice if someone talks to you and you don’t answer... aah haaaaaaaa!. I have so much to talk about experimenting with silence, but... so far... just... Try it!... Enjoy it!... Observe! (Fantastikoooooooo)

Carla in the Sky with Diamonds, TENTACLES , Lulacruza & Tea

I was waiting to feel this happy and peaceful to write bad and good news.

I was very surprised when some friends and family members asked me why I haven't write my monthly email?
the answer is:

Our Dear Carla Zilbersmith past away in her house around her family members and friends, the best community i have EVER met.
I was one of her caregivers, she was a 47 years old biutifulest, preciosa, funniestest woman.
Even if I try very hard to be a good Buddhist disciple with the awareness that we should not been moved by fame, gain, prosperity, decline, fortune, gladness, increase, decrease, antipathy, resentment, anger, hatred, scheming, defamation, seizing, harm, sickness, suffering, parting and death...
I was humanly sad.

My mom and my cousin asked me to write my biggestestestest impressions my biggestisima lesson.
And the easiest way to share this is with the next drawing that I title: TENTACLES / TENTACULOS

This is my theory:
I believe we are luminous eggs carrying a stinky body car. We have this invisible tentacles and since we are born we learn to attach to ...everything, mom, dad, brothers, sisters, friends, houses, pets, dreams, thoughts, believes, habits, conducts, traumas, food, beauty, money, desires, lies, principles, carrier, body, life.

I saw how Carlita had to detached her tentacles from everything,
how she had to say "Adios" to her singing voice. She had to say "Adios" to her expectations and dreams, "Adios" to eat, "Adios" to shower, "Adios" to her sun.
When things turned very bad I trained my self to unleash my invisible tentacles from her, because i know it is very difficult we, luminous eggs, can go if we are not free. And it doesn't mean we don't love, it means that when you really love you let go. I was AMAZED to see all her family and all her friends doing the same with their tentacles, it was beautiful. Gracias to be part of my destiny.
Here my confessions:

- I confess that i felt bad because I didn't want to make me the tattoo that the rest of the caregiver did in the name of Carla. In a moment of bravery and pure camaraderie, and not wanting to look so chicken, I gave to Carlita the oath of five days of silence in her name.
Whaaaaaaaaaaat?!!! (i will take about this later, maybe)
-I confess that more than once i wanted to quit and go hide some place. I'm surprise to realized that loyalty to your mission no matter how small it looks, is one of the best victories.

-I confess that I was trying to find a good excuse to do not go to the funeral, and I end up giving a speech, and laughing como una loca. I hugged and hugged and felt so much love and comprehension that i think i did like three rounds of hugs and I ate all the cookies and keep hugging, it was the most amazing funeral Carlita could prepared us. -I confess that I learned that if you're having a panic attack i can give you this medicine named LORAZAPUNK and you'll be laughing and telling me jokes :)

Adios mi hermosa Carla Zilbersmith, you are LIBRE, wait for me in heaven.

The good news is:

LULACRUZA is here in a USA tour!!!
In my opinion one of the BEST contemporary fusions of technology and ancestral. Their music is a synonym of wisdom, light and good taste. They make you travel to the future with a message of the past.

My friend Paul Cabezas, the founder of New Eden Projects, when randomly talking I mention to him about an idea I had in mind, he told me, I want to help you!!!.
He and his family are these kind of people that their only thinking is how to support other people. Gracias

Mayra, Maria and Kim who are my family (as well as Iliana and Michael mi neighbors, two cats and two little parrots) when they listened to this idea, they were 100% committed and working hard in The Tea Dancers / Ballet de la compasión.

The Tea Dancers / Ballet de la Compasión, is a dance troupe and this summer we will be dancing for the old people, the sick, the abandon, the last ones, the needy. We are going to be performing at senior centers, homeless shelters, hospitals, ghettos and ugly places.
The main goals are
1.-To bring inspiration to those people who need it the most.
2.-An exercise of compassion, we believe that if you don't touch sufffer, smell suffer, see suffering, it is difficult to realize true compassion.

Please help us and support us in our first fundraiser, or send me your ideas about hospitals, foster centers, public schools that you think it would be good idea to support them with inspiration.
We have already a list , and I confess I'm kind of happy and SCARE too.

Mi mama Beethoven

My mom used to sing us the Ode to Joy in german... O Freunde, nicht diese tone!... sondern lasst uns angenehmere... anstimmen, und freudenvollere! She had hanged the speaker in the roof of our house in Cocoyoc. Every morning she used to wake us up with the most incredible music EVER before going to school. My mom likes to listen to music very loud, i was happy that we didn't have neighbors around.

The Ninth symphony in my mom's house was a MOST. It is my mother's hymn.
I remember once I had a big trouble, I back home inconsolable crying. Mi mama turned on the c.d. player with the Ninth.. and she made me sit next to her... she didn't talk a word... I didn't talked a word neither (i was crying :) at the end of the 4th movement i had all resolved and clear in heart and mind.

In New Years Eves we used to watch The video of Ninth with Karajan or Bernstain conducting.
If you wonder what is my mom doing? Well, she may be at her room watching the NINTH while eating chocolates.

I want to share with you some notes about Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
But the most important of these notes is that Beethoven was totally deaf when he composed the Ninth. It is a tangible proved that the mind goes beyond senses and it can manifest whatever it wants.

As early as 1973, Beethoven was thinking os setting Friedrich Von Schiller's Ode to Joy to music.
His pupil Carl Czerny claimed that the tune ocurred to him while listening to the twittering of sparrows.

"it is long since I have been able to bring myself to write easily," Beethoven complained in 1822. "I sit and think and think. The ideas are there, but they will not go down in paper. I dread the beginning of large works. Once begun, it's all right." That year he sketched the opening movement of the Ninth and was again toying with the Schiller Ode as a finale.

On August 16, 1823, Beethoven wrote to his nephew; "Today I really began my service to the Muses." He was finally composing the Ninth Symphony in earnest.

By early 1823, the Ninth was finished. The contralto soloist, Karoline Unger, called Beethoven a "tyrant over all the vocal organs" to his face. He refused to change a note. Whereupon she turned to the soprano and remarked, "Well , then we must go on torturing ourselves in the name of God".

The first performance took place on May 7, 1824. Beethoven, completly deaf, sat in the middle of the orchestra, with a score. The conductor, Michael Umlauf, instructed the orchestra and chorus to "pay no attention whatever to Beethoven's beating of the time."
Sir Geroge Grove later talked to Unger and gae the following account:
"The master, though placed in the midst of this confluence of music, heard nothing of it at all and was not even sensible of the applause of the audience at the end of his great work, but continued standing with his back to the audience, and beating the time, till Fraulein Unger turned him, or induced him to turn around and face the people, who were still clapping their hands, and giving way to the greatest demonstrations of pleasure. His turning around, and the sudden conviction thereby forced on everybody that he had not done so before because he could not hear what was going on, acted like an electric shock on all present , and a volcanic explosion of sympathy and admiration followed, which was repeated again and again, and seemed as if it would never end." Anton Schindler told Beethoven later, "the whole audience was impressed, crushed by the greatness of your work."

The Ninth Symphony's first movement give us the tragedy of life.

The second movement gives us the reaction from tragedy to a humor that cannot be purely joyful... The slow movement as beauty of an order too sublime for a world of action; it has no action, and its motion is that of the stars int their courses... But it is a fundamental principle in Beethoven's art that triumph is to be won in the light of common day...
Beethoven's plan is to remind us of the first three movements just as they have been described above: and to reject them one by one as failing to attain the joy in which he believes. After all three have been rejected, a new theme is to appear, and that theme shall be hailed and sung as the Hymn of Joy.

Why is it Good to do Good? an to ti tooooooo

I was explaining to my roommate Maria that i didn't know how to start my monthly email,
I 've been working on it for a long time, and it has been very difficult to talk about what is good when sometimes we can't even differenciate good from bad.

I was explainning to Maria that while some people are sure that the health care bill is good
other people say it is not good. The Terrorist Think it is good to bomb. Some others think it is good to bomb Terrorists.
***I mean these good people want to kill "those bad people" and
<those bad people think they are good people and
want to kill 'these bad people that also think themselves to be good>***

I like this photo because the policeman is trying to save a Chinese man that wants to commit suicide in the street of BUSH. What if this man did something very horrible? at least the police is going to give him the chance to live and repent... just wondering.

I think is not good to wish death upon ANYBODY no matter how bad the person has been.

I know that not everybody has the privilage and ability to rise wisdom and compassion in their mind.
Very evil people have not got the good fortune to overcome their own greed,
hatred, and selfish minds. We should feel lots of compassion for them.
I believe that good people are good people with everybody (including with bad people)
since goodness comes from within and it reflects the inner cultivation of each individual.

Let me give you the case of Iranian-american scholar Hale Esfandiari who was unfairly arrested
and spent four months in solitary confinement. When one of her guards noticed she was unable
to hold a knife to peel her fruit, because her arthitris was acting up, the guard peeled it and cut it
for her. A human gesture in an inhuman place!
I'm sure this guard is kind with all prissioners, including real evil criminals.

No matter how good people we are or we "think" we are, the path of goodness (yes it's about
thinking and helping others and aliviate their suffering) involves that we are continuously correcting our selves
ALL THE TIME, it's about appologizing and forgiving ourselves and others ALL THE TIME. Real life is about correcting and correcting
all our wrong point of view, catching our selfishness, bad thoughts, careless actions
and relax create a good moment when we may want to bark. Thus we can cultivate a natural Self control.

No matter how famous, how pretty, how talented, how successfull, how wonderful, how organic, how vegan, how activist, how GOOD we think we
are, the best is to rely on humbleness. Every minute every second we have to forgive tons of offenses, believe me, every second in fact every nanosecond the most horrible things are happening in the name of good.

I know that we all have different religious backgrounds. My mom is Christian, Samuel and Robert are Jewish, Lamine is Muslim...i am Buddhist, but all of the religions believe in heaven and that life is a journey that take us step by step toward the goal of Heaven. To reach Heaven is beyond our Power. Our goal is to try to get there.
You may not like religious matters, that's ok, but let's all follow the core universal principles (not kill, not lie, not steal, not do to others what you don't want others to do to you, etc...) and live with the highest moral intelligence.

I confess that one of my passions is to dive into the internet and look for articles about people, "ordinary people", that their only thought is to DO GOOD to others, I found this so attractive, so magnificent, so unique, so POWERFULISIMO.

FUND a FIELD is a non- profit organization founded by Garrett and Kyle Weiss when they were just 15 and 13, respectively. The organization works to provide soccer fields and equipment to the under-privileged children of Africa.
